The Perfect Way to Install a Screen Protector

Smartphones, while designed and manufactured with more durable materials than ever before, are prone to all kinds of damage. From cracked screens to water damage and everything in between, smartphone users have spent more than $20 billion on smartphone repairs/replacements in the United States alone over the past decade. Fortunately, durable cases and screen protectors make it easier than ever to life-proof your phone and avoid costly damage.

Still, if you've ever applied a screen protector to your smartphone, you know just how frustrating the experience can be. From air bubbles and peeling to annoying overlap, there's a lot that can go wrong when installing a screen protector. Stress no more! We've got the perfect method for flawless screen protector application every time.

The Hinge Method

The great thing about this technique is that it works with both plastic and tempered glass screen protectors, and it's pretty much fail-proof. Furthermore, all you need for this method is a little bit of tape, a credit card, and the screen protector of your choice. If you're cutting your own screen protector to fit your phone, you'll also need a pair of scissors to make the cut.

Begin with your screen protector, measured and cut to the appropriate size for your phone's screen (if needed). Keeping the adhesive backings in place, go ahead and arrange the screen protector so that it's centered perfectly across your phone's screen. Once you have it exactly where you want it, take two small pieces of tape and use them to "hinge" the protector onto your phone, just as you have positioned it. The tape will then hold the protector in place while you remove the adhesive backing, allowing it to stick to your phone screen.

Once the backing is removed, slowly and carefully press the screen protector onto your phone screen, working from the taped edge all the way to the other edge of the screen. Here, you can use a credit card, your driver's license, or a similar tool to smooth out any bubbles or imperfections. Once you have your screen protector properly in place, you can carefully remove the tape, along with the front adhesive material, to complete the application! This method reveals a perfectly-applied screen protector every time, and helps to ensure that your protector lasts as long as possible without those annoying imperfections and debris getting caught behind the adhesive backing.

Additional Screen Protector Application Tips

In addition to giving the hinge method a try, there are some other tips worth keeping in mind as you prepare to apply a new screen protector to your smartphone. For starters, always be sure to wipe your phone's screen clean with a microfiber or other soft cloth before you get started. This will help to ensure that there is no lint, dust, or other debris that can get caught between your screen and the protector.

Furthermore, when it comes time to remove the adhesive backing from the protector, be extremely careful not to touch the sticky part with your fingers. To be extra safe, consider wearing gloves during application. Otherwise, the oils from your skin can come into contact with the screen protector and break down the adhesive material, making it more prone to peeling and lifting.

If you have bubbles to smooth out, always start from the middle and work your way to the screen's perimeter. After all, bubbles in the middle of the screen are always the hardest to remove.

By keeping these tips in mind the next time you apply a screen protector, you'll end up with a near-perfect fit! For more tips and resources for protecting your phone, contact Ultimate Shield today.
